The Carré Rouge is a very curious hotel where one can live inside a red cube in the middle of the countryside. The hotel was designed by Gloria Friedmann, a contemporary art painter.

The hotel is located in the Lagnes plain in France, and is an innovative project designed to blend in and respect the environment. The cube has two floors and can accommodate up to six people. Part of the cube is painted in a bright red color, while one of the walls is made from glass.

On the ground floor we can find the living and dining rooms and a large kitchen, while on the top floor we can find the rooms with three double beds. Hotel upon pylons in the heart of Switzerland

The Rogner Bad Blumau hotel is a modern style hotel which also happens to be one of the most environmentally friendly hotels in the world. The hotel is surrounded by hills, and in order to blend in with nature, the roof of the building is completely covered by grass.

This hotel was designed and built by the famous architect Hunderwasser, who opened the hotel in 2000. The hotel is located in the Bad Blumau region in Austria, and the architect’s curious design has been compared to Gaudi’s style.

The Sala Silvermine Hotel is a curious bed and breakfast in Sala, Västmanland, in Sweden. This small hotel has only one suite, 150 metres under the ground.

This hotel used to be an old silvermine, situated 120 kilometres away from Stockholm. In the past, this mine used to produce more than 3 tonnes of silver per year, but after it was abandoned the site was reconstructed and became a luxurious hotel. Since the suite is 150 metres under the ground, the temperature in there is always around 2ºC. However, the temperature in the room is around 18ºC, and in order to not feel the cold, extra thick covers are provided.

This luxurious suite is a fusion of both the traditional and the modern styles. This impressive suite costs around 250€ per night. Every morning, a hotel employee brings down a traditional breakfast to their guests.

Inside the ancient cave near the suite, one can explore the many hidden tunnels and passageways under the ground. Hotel guides offer interesting tours around the underground hotel, and one has the opportunity to learn about the history of the mines and their refurbishment into an unusual hotel.

The more traditional wing of the hotel can be found above ground, called the Gruvfrun bed and breakfast.
