Original Hotels

The Twelve Decades Hotel is located in Johannesburg, in South Africa. This boutique hotel has many rooms decorated in several art styles, and each one of the twelve decades has its own style.

Rooms.

The hotel, located in a building that is part of a large cultural complex, has twelve double rooms. Each room is dedicated to a decade and was designed by a team of local architect and designers. Each room has a double bed, a lounge area with armchairs, a bathroom with a shower, Internet access and flat television screens. The price per room is between 77 and 90€ per night.

The Vision Main Street life is a room based on the impact of a meteorite that crashed into the southern part of the city billions of years ago, creating the Vredefort Crater. This room is decorated in whites.

Sir Abe Bailey room is dedicated to the Randlords, the rulers that used to rule the region. This rooms has a brick wall and antique Chinese carved furniture that represents the many Chinese immigrants, many of whom travelled to the region to become miners.

The House That Jack Built is a room dedicated to the city’s boxing history. In the center of the room guests will find a boxing ring made of wood and there are several trophies decorating the wooden shelves.

The Minehaus room is a double room known for its bauhaus décor. The room has many murals decorated with bauhaus graphic designs, and the angular furniture is made of colourful metal and dark wood.

The Marabi Room is dedicated to the many mines that can be found in the region and to the marabi dance. The room is decorated with furniture built in several styles and has a rough floor.

Who is Herbert Dolmo is a large room dedicated to the traditional Bantu performances. Bantu was a teacher who tried to buffer the effect of colonial domination by promoting dramatic performances, and the beds in this rooms have thick velvet curtains.

A Part Love A Part Hate has a satirical design, mocking the tumultuous history of the Apartheid. This room is decorated with black and white phrases relating to the Apartheid.

Main Street Constellations is decorated with constellations that have the shape of men and women. Each one of the men and women held together by a red string is a person who is part of the city’s history, and one of the constellations is Nelson Mandela.

50 Stories is based on the history of the Carlton Center, one of the city’s first malls and one of the first public spaces to allow interracial socializing. The mall has an observation deck with views towards the city decorated with black walls and black paintings, and these decorations can be seen in this room.

The Ponte Obscura room is dedicated to the Ponte building. This building was one of the city’s largest downtown buildings, which was abandoned during the exodus towards the suburbs, and the room has a large screen with the city painted upside down on it separating the double room and the lounge area.

Catwalk Customs room is a vogue room dedicated to fashion. There is a runway in the middle of the room and the room’s lamp have the shape of large industrial spotlights used in modelling shows.

The Perpetual Liberty rooms has three living spaces, one of them dedicated to the past, another one to the present and the third one to the future. The city’s dark past is the living room, the present is where the bed is located and the bright future is the niche area that has a large window with views towards the city.

Restaurant.

The hotel provides glasses, plates and dining utensils for guests who want to prepare their own meals. The Rooftop Bar is a bar located on the hotel’s roof. The bar, which has views towards the city center, is known for its live DJ performances and themed nights.

Near the hotel there are several restaurants, and part of the restaurants offer breakfasts and room service to guests who stay at the hotel. The main restaurants are the Pata Pata diner and the Chalkboard Café. In the center of the complex where the hotel is located guests will find the Canteen restaurant, which serves lunch and dinner. Guests will be able to enjoy ethnic food at one of the many stalls located in the Main Market.

On the roof of the hotel visitors will find a gym with weights and a boxing ring, and the hotel organizes boxing and yoga classes. The gym is decorated in dark colours and there is a large windows with views towards the city.

The Cocoon is a spa with a meditation area located on one of the hotel’s floors. Guests will be able to enjoy massages and relaxing treatments, and there is a nutritionist who can advise guests who want to control their weight. Meditation and yoga classes are organized in one of the spa’s rooms.

Events.

There are several options for guests who want to celebrate their events at the hotel. On one of the floors there is a meeting space that can accommodate up to fifteen guests.

The halls located in the Chalkboard Café and the large conference hall located in the complex that can accommodate up to 400 people can be rented for events. The Bioscope is another events hall equipped with audiovisual equipment which can be rented for events of up to 67 people.

Location.

The hotel is located to the east of Johannesburg’s city center, in the city’s central business district. Near the hotel there are many bars, ethnic restaurants and local shops.

The hotel is part of the Main Street Life complex, which supports the Maboneng Project that was created to promote art and design in the city. The complex has several art galleries, a cinema and a stage for concerts and performances.

There is a transport service to and from the city center. Near the hotel there are many art galleries and museums. The hotel offers an exchange program for designers, who will be able to stay at the hotel in exchange for their designs being shown in the Main Street Life collection.

The hotel organizes guided tours on foot around the city. These excursions tour the city’s main landmarks and monuments, and guests will be able to visit the Johannesburg Art Gallery, the Apartheid Museum and the Ellis Park Stadium.

The Proposal is a hotel located in an art gallery in Zurich, in Switzerland. The hotel rooms are located on one of the gallery’s highest floors.

Rooms.

Guests who stay at this hotel will be able to enjoy a stay at an experimental art gallery. This bed and breakfast has two rooms located in the art gallery. During their stay guests will be able to visit the rest of the museum and its many art exhibitions.

One of the rooms is a loft located next to one of the galleries. The room has views towards a large, blown up sculpture of a man that weighs more than half a ton. The room has light wooden floors and is decorated in white, and has a large white double bed.

The second rooms is located in one of the museum’s patios, inside an ancient Peugeot J7 hippie chromed bus. The bus was remodelled and is now a large double room with a queensize bed.

Price is around 128€ per room per night. The hotel’s bathroom, which has a large shower, is located inside the art gallery. The rooms provide bathrobes for each guest.

Restaurants.

The price per night includes a state of the art breakfast called the Untitled Breakfast and two cocktails in the gallery. Guests will be able to rent bicycles at the hotel and explore the city.

Events.

Guests will be able to celebrate events in the hotel’s large patio. Cocktails are organized for visitors and the gallery offers talks about the art pieces that can be seen in the main exhibition hall.

Location.

The hotel is located in the Wiedikon neighbourhood in Zurich, one of the city0s most artistic districts. The gallery is filled with many types of art and there are several exhibitions.

There are several permanent and temporary exhibitions. Part of the gallery has art and sculptures dedicated to Henry David Thoreau. There is another exhibit the presents clothes as a second skin. Another exhibit is a tree that grows horizontally.

Guests will be able to see how an art gallery is after the visitors are gone. The gallery is visited by many of the artists who have their exhibits on show, and guests will be able to talk about the pieces of art located in the gallery.

The hotel is located inside the museum and has views towards the large patio. Near the hotel guests will find the city’s main train station. The neighbourhood is known for its many historical monuments that guests will be able to visit, and there are several bars, restaurants and shops a short walk away.

The Hotel Hi Eco Resort and Spa is located in Nice, in France. This hotel has rooms decorated with designer furniture and a private beach.

Rooms.

The boutique hotel is an ecological hotel that has nine types of rooms and 38 designer rooms. Each room has a double bed with a private bathroom and views towards the city, and each room has one of the hotel’s nine designs.

The Techno Corner rooms are designed in the style of private viewing rooms. There is a large television screen that can be watched from the bathtub and the bed. The sofablaster is a sofa with integrated loudspeakers and headphones, and the armrest has a selection of CDs.

The Happy Day rooms change each afternoon. During midday each room has a sofa where guests will be able to relax and are decorated in light woods and bright greens, and during the afternoon the panels behind the sofa glide to reveal a double bed decorated in pink. Each rooms provides slippers and water for guests.

The Up and Down room is a duplex room decorated with chestnut furniture. The lower floor is a large living and the upper floor has a large double bed. Behind a large chestnut wardrobe guests will find the bathroom.

The Digital rooms are decorated with several graphic design themes dedicated to cyberculture. There are large pixels on the room’s surface and the furniture has the shape of desktop icons. In the center of the room there is a box that changes its colour.

The Rendez Vous rooms are modular rooms. The space can be rearranged into a bathroom with a lounge and a desk area with desk and chair. Each room has a private terrace.

Monospace are rooms that have three sections, and each section is decorated in one colour. Each section is dedicated to one function, and one of the sections is for relaxing and another one is for comfort.

The Strates rooms are designer rooms decorated with coloured panels. The shower cabin is transparent, and bright red stairs lead to the double room.

The Happy Day, Monospace and Up and Down rooms cost around 269€ per night. The Digital, Strates and Techno Corner rooms cost 309€ per night. The Indoor Terrasse has a price of 369€ per night. Restaurant.

The hotel has a bar and a restaurant. The Happy Bar is the hotel’s epicentre, and has views towards the hotel’s gardens and the street. DJ’s and group perform each afternoon at the bar.

The Cantine Bio is a restaurant where visitors will be able to enjoy dishes made using organic ingredients. The restaurant offer breakfast, lunch, dinner and brunches. There are vegetarian menus and a sushi bar. The restaurant is decorated in bright colours. Guests will be able to enjoy their meals in the garden.

The hotel has a private beach and a terrace with views towards the sea. The Hi Beach has colourful hammocks for guests. The terrace, which has three parts and each part has a theme, has access to the beach.

Guests will be able to enjoy many spa treatments at the Hi Body spa. There are massages and relaxing treatments. The spa has a steam room and two chamber hammam that is connected to a lounge where guests will be able to relax before heading to the massage room. Next to the spa there is a shop.

Events.

Events can be organized at the Happy Bar. The bar has its own large screen and a projector for when the hotel organizes themed movie nights.

The Concordia Eco Resort is located on the island St.John’s, in the United States Virgin Islands in the Caribbean. This ecological resort has tents decorated in a traditional Caribbean style.

Rooms.

The eco resort has tents equipped with solar panels. The hotel has several studios where the rooms are decorated with traditional local furniture.

The 25 tents are ecological and the nine studio suites are located on a hill on the hotel grounds. Each tent has solar panels and a wooden structure. There is a kitchen, a loft room with several beds and a large bathroom powered by solar energy. The terrace of each tent has views towards the sea.

Several of the studios are duplex studios located in the hotel’s main building. The studios are double rooms with a double bed and a private bathroom. Biodegradable products are used in the bathrooms.

The Orange Bubble is a filled with colour and light. The orange bubble has retro decorations and there is a model of a car on the ceiling.

The Star Bubble is a blue bubble. This bubble has many reliefs and guests will be able to relax in this room decorated as the outer space.

The Chlorophyll Bubble is a large green bubble. There are many plants and the bubble’s window has views towards the river that flows near the hotel.

The Love Bubble is a red and white bubble. Inside the bubble there is a large double bed and the room is decorated with several mirrors.

Restaurant.

Guests will be able to enjoy a coffee at the L’Utopie Coffee Shop. This bar has terrace with views towards the gardens. The bar offers a selection of cocktails and snacks.

The hotel can prepare picnic baskets for guests who want to explore the nearby towns. Guests can spend an afternoon in the countryside.

Events.

Conferences and events can be organized in the Mojo Hall. This hall is located on the ground floor of the main bubble and has several chairs and tables.
