Klaus K, Kalevala rooms and award-winning brunches

The Klaus K hotel is located in Helsinki, in Finland. The hotel is dedicated to the Kalevala saga, a collection of local folklore and stories, and all rooms are decorated with characters from the saga.

Rooms.

The hotel has 137 double rooms. Each room has a bed with a large colourful headboard and a bathroom with a shower. All rooms have murals depicting various scenes from the Kalevala.

The main themes of the rooms are desire, envy, mysticism and passion. There are several types of rooms, and some of them are designer rooms. All rooms have designer beds, a desk with a chair, a television set with an LCD television screen, a selection of DVDs and boardgames, and Internet access. The bathroom has robes for each guest. Guests can have tea and coffee making machines in their rooms. Price is around 270€ per night per room and 360€ per night per suite.

There are two types of Desire rooms: those with two beds and those with a kingsize bed. Each room has a bathroom with a shower and a lounge area with a table and chairs. The Mystical rooms have decorations and murals based on the stories of the Kalevala. These rooms have bathrooms with a shower. There are rooms with a large individual bed and rooms with a queensize bed.

The Passion room are rooms filled with stories of the Kalevala. Some of the rooms have an individual bed, and others have a queensize bed, all the beds made by local carpenters. Each room has a laptop-sized safe and a bathroom with a shower and bathrobes for each guest. The Passion for MINI are similar rooms. These rooms are decorated with scaled models of MINI cars and with MINI products. They have individual beds, a bathroom with a shower and a desk with a chair.

The Envy King and Twin rooms are decorated in darker colours. The Twin rooms have two beds and the King rooms have a kingsize bed. The Envy Plus are large rooms with a kingsize bed. The Envy Suites are suite with a kingsize bed and a lounge area. Each suite has a master room with a kingsize bed, and there are two bathrooms and a living room with a sofa bed. Each suite has a desk with chairs, a Nespresso machine and two LCD television screens.

The Movie Room is a designer suite with a large television set, video game consoles and several DVDs. There is a large four-poster bed with red velvet curtains. The Urban Nature room is a suite with wooden and stone furniture. This room is decorated in shades of green, and a large glass panel separates the bathroom from the room. There is a double bed and a sofa.

The Tukianen Arte Suite is a room decorated with murals of the Italian city of Tivoli. This room has colourful LEDs. The Sakkinen Art Room is a room dedicated to several cultures…and their respective cuisines. The murals depict traditional Chinese, Mexican and Finnish landmarks and dishes. The Leinonen Art Room is a suite with two rooms. There is a room with a double bed and a living room. The living room is decorated with white grafiti paintings of famous couples: Romeo and Juliet, Diana and Charles and many more. The same paintings can be seen in black on the other side of the suite, in the bedroom: several of them no longer show married couples, showing Charles and Camilla.

Restaurant.

The hotel has two restaurants and a bar. The Toscanini restaurant offers traditional Italian dishes and Tuscan specialities, and is decorated with frescoes by local painter Akseli Gallen Kallela.

The Ilmatar restaurant offers traditional and award-winning Finnish breakfasts. Breakfasts are made using traditional Finnish ingredients from nearby farms.

The Ahjo Bar and Club is the hotel’s bar. The Lunchroom is located next to it, a large hall where a variety of aperitifs are served. The lobby has another bar that offers a selection of champagne. Close to the bar guests will find a spa with a gym, several massage rooms and a traditional Finnish sauna.

Events.

The hotel has a large banquet hall where events of up to 120 people can be organized. The Stage1 and Stage 3 halls have a table for six people, and the Stage 2 hall can accommodate up to 20 guests.

Brunches and formal dinners can be organized at the hotel’s restaurant. The Ahjo Bar and Club can be rented out for events of up to 350 guests. This bar offers a variety of cocktails and has a DJ booth for parties.

Location.

The hotel is located in an historical mansion in the center of Helsinki. Guests will be able to enjoy walks around the city center and visits to nearby museums. A short distance away from the hotel guests will find the port, which is usually filled with docked cruise ships. The hotel can organize transfers from and to the city’s airport. The hotel is steps away from the Esplanade, a popular meeting place that consists of a promenade and a park.
