Yunak Evleri, a hotel with fairy chimneys

The Yunak Evleri Hotel is located in the region of Cappadocia, in Central Anatolia in Turkey. The hotel is located between the mountains and has the fairy chimneys that are typical in this region.

Each room is decorated in a traditional Ottoman style, and each room has a private patio with views towards the plains.

There is a large patio with a lounge where guests can relax while sitting on Turkish cushions placed in front of the fireplace. The hotel’s restaurant is a large room with a terrace, and guests can enjoy their traditional Turkish meals inside and outside. The restaurant has another terrace on the roof where guests can enjoy candle lit dinners with views towards the fairy chimneys.

Events.

The hotel’s conference hall is located inside the main stone building. The conference hall is equipped with audiovisual equipment, a large desk and several chairs.

In the stone mansion there is a music room with a large collection of CD’s and a sound system. In another hall guests will find a computer with wireless Internet access. Another hall has a home cinema with a collection of DVDs.

Location.

The hotel is located near the village of Urgup and is carved directly into the mountain. Guests who stay at this hotel can explore the Cappadocia region, known for its underground cities, cavernous churches hidden in mountains and caves.

The hotel can arrange transport from and to the Kayseri and Nevsehir airports. Tours around the Cappadocia region can be organized. Guests can visit the many ancient caves located a short distance away from the hotel.

The hotel’s staff can organize activities in the region. Guests can explore Cappadocia from above during a tour in a hot air balloon that flies above the fairy chimneys, the valleys and the vines.

The hotel is located in the West District, a historic neighbourhood near the city centre. The neighbourhood is known for the many century old shops dedicated to calligraphy. A short distance away from the hotel guests will find the city’s main landmarks and monuments, and Victoria Harbour is only a short walk away.

Re!Hotel, a colourful retro hotel with themed suites

The Re! Hotel is located in Singapore. This small boutique hotel has a clear retro style, with each room decorated by a different team of architects, artists and designers.

Rooms and prices.

The hotel has twelve floors and 140 different types of rooms. Each floor at the hotel is painted in a different colour, and all the rooms on a floor follow the same theme. All rooms are double rooms with a bathroom covered in mosaic tiles, and the décor varies in each room. Most rooms have a retro design with pop decorations and the latest technologies.

There are 53 Superior rooms. These rooms have a unique design, with walls painted in several colours, vinyl furniture covered by patterned textiles and pop art decorations. Price starts from 88€ per night.

On the ground floor of the hotel guests will find the Re!Fresh, a spa where guests can enjoy relaxing massages, manicure and pedicure. Next to the spa is the gym, known as the Re!Charge.

There is a large conference room, the Re!Union hall, which can accommodate up to 100 people. The Re!Joice is a large terrace located under a canopy where guests can celebrate events such as weddings and large conferences. There are fifty tables with a capacity for ten people around each table.

Location.

The hotel offers several extra services to their guests, such as transport to and from the centre of the city. The Luxx XL Hotel is located in Bangkok, in Thailand. This boutique hotel combines a modern architecture with swimming pools and gardens designed in a traditional manner.

Design and Philosophy.

This small hotel’s philosophy is that everything should be chic. The hotel has seven floors and a large territory with several common areas and gardens. The hotel’s 12 metre long infinity pool is a salt water pool that allows guests to relax while observing the views.

Rooms and Suites.

The hotel has 34 studios and 17 different suites. Each room has a bedroom with a large bed and a bathroom, and some of the more spacious rooms have an extra bedroom. The rooms are decorated with hand made beds, carved furniture and a minimalist décor.

Three main materials are used in the rooms, polished stone, stainless steel and teak wood. There is a balcony in each room and the bathrooms follow the typical Luxx hotel style, this meaning they are divided in several partitions. There are several flat television screens, CDs and DVD’s, and WiFi available throughout the hotel. All rooms have a coffee and tea making machine and complimentary bottled water. Guests will be able to enjoy a continental breakfast for 6€ per person.

The Studio rooms are the smallest and cost 52€ per night. They can have either a large kingsize bed or two individual beds, a spacious bathroom, a separate working area, a lounge area, a pantry and a balcony.

The Studio L rooms are located on the corners of the building and cost 75€ per night. These spacious rooms have a master bedroom with a working area and a minibar, a bathrooms and a small extra bedroom with an individual bed.

Each one of the hotel’s Suites costs 98€ per night. They have a large master bedroom, a pantry with a small kitchen, a sitting room area with a sofa and a bathroom. These one room suites have floor to ceiling windows and a terrace.

The L Suites are two bedroom suites with a price of 142€ per night. These suites have a main bedroom with an extra large bathroom, and a guest bedroom with either a kingsize bed or two individual beds and another bathroom. There is a dining area in the living room and a terrace.

The XL and House Suites are even larger and cost 221€ per night. The Home Suites can be rented for long periods of time. Guests who stay at these suites will be able to enjoy extra services such as gym at a cheaper rate.

Bar.

The hotel has its own Bar, Milk Bar, located inside a large glass cube with. This bar, decorated with designer ornaments, has views towards the swimming pool and the gardens.

The Club Luxx is a service for those guests who are frequent visitors of this chain of hotels. The Club offers services such as free gym sessions and the free use of the conference room and the executive lounge in the gardens.

Location.

The hotel is located on Langsuan street, only a couple of minutes away from Lumphini Park. one of Bangkok’s main parks. Guests will be able to go shopping in the many shops in the nearby streets, lines with all kinds of snack bars, restaurants and boutiques. The hotel is a short distance away from several bus stops and guests are only a short ride away from the main financial district and the historic city centre.

Pera Palace Hotel, Agatha Christie rooms and Hemingway suites

The Pera Palace Hotel is one of Istanbul’s most famed and historic hotels, dating back from the times of the Turkish Empire. This centric hotel dates from 1892, when it was built for passengers of the Orient Express.

History.

This special category hotel can be considered as a museum hotel. The hotel is located in the Beyoglu district, a centric historical neighbourhood of the city, and is the oldest European hotel in the country.

The hotel has art nouveau elements with a touch of neoclassical and oriental style. The hotel officially opened in 1895. During many years, guests who arrived at the city by the Orient Express stayed at this hotel, and because of this the logo of the hotel is the same as the one of the Orient Express.

During the last century the hotel has lived through the fall of the Ottoman Empire and two World Wars. During the First World War the hotel was used as the main headquarters by the occupying forces. This building was the first building to have electricity, which was only used in palaces at the time.

Rooms and Prices.

The hotel has 99 rooms and 16 suites. All rooms are double rooms with a spacious bathroom. The rooms have been renovated maintaining the same style they had all those decades ago when both royalty and celebrities stayed here.

Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the first president of Turkey, stayed in Room 101. In 1981, to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of his birth, the rooms was converted into the Atatürk museum, where visitors will find authentic antiques dating from 1917 and personal amenities that belonged to the man who founded the Republic of Turkey. The room is painted in a light sunrise pink, his favourite colour, and is decorated with ancient Turkish and international books of great value and collections of magazines, post cards, medals and other antiques.

Other historical figures who at some point stayed at this hotel are King George V, Kaiser Wilhelm II, Zar Nicholas II and the Austro Hungarian Emperor Franz Joseph, and many others. Even personalities such as Great Garbo, Rita Hayworth, Jacqueline Kennedy and Zsa Zsa Gabor enjoyed a stay at this hotel.

The Deluxe Pera View rooms have views towards the famous Petits Champs street. These rooms can have either a kingsize bed or two large individual beds, and the bathrooms have either a bathtub or a shower. Some of the rooms have their own French balcony. Each room is decorated with crystal ornaments and has a lot of natural light. Price is around 155€ per night.

The Deluxe Golden Horn View rooms have views towards the Golden Horn. The bathrooms are made of marble and most rooms have a private French balcony. Price is 195€ per night.

The Grand Pera Studios have views towards one of the city’s main streets, Les Petits Champs. Guests will be able to enjoy views towards the centre of the city, which has many buildings and historical monuments, from the large sofas in their living rooms. The room is connected to the bathroom, which has both a bathtub and a shower.

Room 411 is known as Agatha Christie’s room. The Queen of Crime stayed in this particular room several times between 1926 and 1932. Several urban legends claim that this hotel was the place she spent the 11 days she was missing, and half a century after that incident a key to one of her still missing diaries was found in this room. This rooms is one of the most booked rooms at the hotel, and guests will have to book in advance if they want to stay at the place where she wrote Murder on the Orient Express.

The six Greta Garbo rooms are 50 square metres each, and have small French balconies with views towards the Petits Champs. The Swedish actress stayed in these six rooms. Price starts from 270€ per night.

The Pera Palace Special Suites are decorated with paintings, antique furniture and designer carpets. The large marble bathrooms have a bathtub and a shower. Most suites have French balconies, and each suite is named in honour of an historical figure who stayed at that room. Price varies according to the suite, with the minimum price being around 445€ per night.

Five suites are known as the Ernest Hemingway suites. The writer stayed here in 1922. The 55 square metre suites have a bedroom, a bathroom, a closet, a living rooms and a French balcony.

The Pierre Loti suites were some of the French writer’s favourite places. The suites are located on the corners of the building and have different views. The suites have a bedroom, a bathroom and a living room.

Suite 201, the Ismet İnönü suite, and Suite 301, the Celal Bayar suite, are senior suites named in honour of the second and third presidents of the Republic of Turkey. These suites have large balconies with views towards the Golden Horn. Each suite has a large bedroom with a marble bathroom and a separate working area.

The Piano suite is located on the sixth floor and has views towards the bay. The suite is decorated in an Art Déco style, and has a large bedroom, a bathroom and a living area.

The Presidential suites at the hotel are known as the King Edward VIII suite and the Franz Joseph suite. These suites are located on the fourth and fifth floors of the hotel. Each suite has 155 square metres, with a bedroom, a closet, a large living room area, a dining room, an office and two bathrooms.

Interior décor.

The reception, hallways and rooms at the hotel are covered in white marble and are decorated with Murano glass chandeliers that hang from the ceilings. New technologies have been integrated without disrupting the design.

The hotel has conserved its XIXth century style, and little has changed in its décor. The elevator has been renovated conserving the same structure that the first elevator installed at this hotel had.

Bar and Restaurant.

The hotel’s restaurant, Agatha, combines the traditional cuisines of the three cities where the Orient Express stopped, Istanbul, Paris and Venice. Guests will be able to savour dishes from the French, Italian and Turkish cuisines. The restaurant has an open kitchen and its own wine cellar.

The Orient Bar remains one of the city’s most trendy bars. Many historical figures and celebrities have enjoyed a night out at this bar, which is known for its Oriental décor and its cocktail and wine list.

Events.

The Kubbeli Tea Room Saloon can be rented for private events. This room has high ceilings, large windows and a piano. Many guests come to this tea room during tea time, and live music is played during the afternoons.

Pâtisserie.

The hotel has an historical bakery, the Pâtisserie de Pera. This pâtisserie serves fresh croissants and ground coffee. Guests and visitors will be able to enjoy home-made cakes, chocolates and pies from both France and Turkey.

Spa.

The hotel has a 380 square metre spa where guests will be able to enjoy traditional Turkish baths. The spa has a gym, a swimming pool, several saunas and Turkish baths, and there are massage rooms.

Conference Rooms.

There are several renovated conference rooms which combine design and technology. The conference rooms have high ceilings and plenty of natural light. Some of the rooms can be divided into smaller rooms.

Location.

The hotel has views towards the Golden Horn, an estuary that divides the city, and part of the peninsula. The hotel is located in one of the city’s oldest districts, where people of European descent used to live, which explains why the area is known as Little Europe. Nowadays the neighbourhood is one of the most visited places in the city, and has many bars, restaurants and a variety of museums.

The hotel is located a short distance away from the main streets and main squares, such as Istiklal Avenue and Taksim Square. There are many shopping centres, open air markets selling carpets, jewellery and spices, and traditional restaurants nearby.

Antik Zeytin, a rustic hotel and organic olive oil

Antik Zeytin Hotel is an ecological and rustic hotel located in Bodrum, in Turkey. The hotel is a complex made up of several  traditional stone huts.

Rooms and prices.

The Antik Zeytin offers guests a relaxing retreat in one of its 11 rooms, or rather huts. Each room is located in a spacious traditional Anatolian hut, and is equipped with a double bed and bathroom with a large shower. The huts are made from rock and have vaulted ceilings, walls decorated with frescoes and hand crafted wooden furniture. There is air conditioning in all rooms, and all huts have a fireplace and a terrace. The rooms have satellite television, a safe and a minibar filled with herbal teas and coffee. All the bathroom amenities, including the towels, are ecologically friendly products, as are all the cleaning products. Price varies depending on the season, and is usually between 75 and 150€ per night.

The main theme of the hotel is focused on the importance of nature and tradition. The production of olive oil has been one of the region’s main occupations for a long time, and guests who stay at the hotel will have the opportunity to make their own certified organic olive oil using traditional methods such as granite stones. The importance of olive oil is highlighted in the hotel’s name, which means olive oil in Turkish. The hotel sells its own locally produced ecological and organic olive oil.

Activities.

The hotel is far from the large cities, a place where guests can relax and rediscover nature. Several traditional activities are offered, such as baking bread in the large stone ovens dating from the Anatolian era and picking herbs and cooking spices in the nearby Karadag hills. The hotel organizes pottery lessons and offers classes on how to blow glass.

The hotel has its own sailing boat that was built by hand, allowing guests to explore the region by sea. The boat has a spacious deck where guests can sunbathe. Inside the boat itself there is a cabin with two double beds and a bathroom, as well as a kitchen area and a living room.

Restaurant.

There is a restaurant which specializes in Mediterranean cuisine. All the ingredients used are organic and come from organic farms, although some are grown directly on hotel grounds.

Hotel grounds.

The hotel has a large garden where guests will find a swimming pool built as if it were a part of the landscape, with views towards the Aegean Sea, the woods and the mountains. In the centre of the pool there is a small island with an ancient olive tree.

Location.

The nearby city of Bodrum is an historic town. The tomb of Mausolus, or the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, is one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and used to be in this area. One of the city’s highlights is the Archaeological Museum which is partly underwater.  The streets of this city are full of traditional markets selling jewellery, sandals typical of the region and many varieties of olive oil.

The Marina Bay Sands Hotel is a huge landmark hotel in Singapore. This hotel has three skyscrapers shaped like a deck of cards joined by a huge platform on the top floor, holding an open air park with an infinity pool.

The hotel’s most known feature is its infinity pool, located on the hotel’s 55th floor and with a length of 150 metres. From the swimming pool’s solarium guests will be able to enjoy views towards the city, and the pool’s infinity edge design makes one think that they’re going to plunge down.

The hotel has 2560 rooms and suites. All rooms are doubles with a private bathroom and a modern design featuring feng shui arrangements. There are rooms for people with mobility difficulties. There are separate rooms for smokers. The rooms have a separate working area with Internet access. There is a television set, and guests can rent DVDs and films at the lobby. Each room has a tea and coffee making machine, an iron and ironing board, a safe and a mini bar with premium drinks. Price is around 200€ per night for a standard double room, and a suite costs around 500€ per night.

The Atrium Premium and Atrium Grand rooms are located on the hotel’s lowest floors. These two types of rooms can either have a kingsize bed or two double beds, and are closest to the hotel’s shops, casino and restaurants. Both rooms have views towards either the sea or the city.

The Horizon rooms are located on the three highest floors of the three towers. The Horizon rooms can be either Deluxe, Premier or Grand, and have views towards the bay and the sea. All theses rooms either have a kingsize bed or two double beds, and the decorations represent Singapore’s skyline.

The Club rooms are the hotel’s most sought after accommodation options. There is a pillow menu and a shoe shining kit in each room. In the bathroom there are bathrobes, brand name bathroom amenities and make up mirrors. The working area has iPod docks and a printer with a fax and a scanner.

Guests who stay at the Club level rooms and at the suites are entitled to certain privileges, such as free American breakfasts, traditional teas and cocktails with canapés at the Fuse Lounge. These guests can enjoy free international press delivery and free Internet connection. Those who travel on business have direct access to the hotel’s conference rooms. The suites have a private butler service.

The Orchid Suite, with an area of 90 square metres, has a master bedroom and a living room. There is a pillow menu, and the bathroom has plenty of spa amenities. The large working area has stationery material such as notepads and pens for the guest’s use.

The Bay Suite, with an area of 138 square metres, has views towards the city skyline and the bay. This suite has a master bedroom and an extra guest bedroom, as well as a large bathroom and a separate living room area.

The Marina Suites are located on the top floors of the hotel. These suites have views towards the city, and some of the rooms have views towards the gardens and the bay. The spacious bathroom has a jacuzzi and spa amenities.

The Sands Suites have 222 square metres of space, with a spacious master bedroom, a large bathroom and a separate living room. A team of butlers are at the service of guests who stay at these suites.

The halls at this hotel are filled with art. More daring guests will be able to play at the hotel’s giant casino or else dine at one of the hotel’s many restaurants, such as The Sky, located on the Sky Park.

The three hotel building are shaped like giant decks of cards. Next to the three main buildings there is a large convention centre, with more than 120,000 square metres of space and enough space for 250 conference rooms. The hotel can organize many events such as weddings, celebrations and conferences, and a transfer service from and to the airport can be arranged.

Inside the hotel guests will find an artificial canal filled with XVIIth century Chinese boats and barges. Guests and visitors can enjoy a ride in one of those boats. The hotel offers other entertainment options such as a convention centre, a theatre, a glass pavilion with several galleries and an art museum shaped like a giant lotus.

On the topmost floor of the hotel guests will find the Sky Park, a large park located on a giant platform uniting three buildings more than 200 metres up in the air. The Sands Sky Park has more than 12,400 square metres of space. There is a recreational area in the park, with more than 250 types of trees and 650 plant species. The queen of the park is the hotel’s swimming pool, an 150 metre long infinity pool. The design of the pool is such that one might think that the water stretches until the horizon. Guests will be able to enjoy views towards the city both from the swimming pool and the observation deck.

Private villas and tradition in Bali

The Amandari Hotel is a hotel built to resemble a traditional Balinese village located in Ubud, Bali, Indonesia. The hotel has spacious rooms filled with natural light and decorated in the traditional, local, way.

The Amandari was built in a traditional Balinese way, with small cottages clustered around winding paths. The cottages have high walls and the paths are made from andesite stone. The hotel has views towards the valley and the nearby river. There is a small natural lagoon on one of the river banks, and the lagoon is considered to be a sacred place, decorated with three traditional shrines and a XVIIth century statue of a tiger carved out of a rock.

The hotel has 30 spacious suites with plenty of natural light and locally made decorations. None of these suites has a television set, but there are iPod docks in all rooms. Each suite is located in an individual cottage made from teak, coconut tree and bamboo, with a straw roof and views towards the river Ayung.

There are three different types of suites. The Village suites cost around 622€ per night, while the Valley suites have a price of 777€ per night and the Pool suites cost 933€ per night. All suites have a private garden, a living room, a master bedroom with a bathroom and a separate room with a marble bathtub. Some of the suites have only one floor and a kingsize bed in the master bedroom, while others are duplex suites with a queensize bed in the master bedroom, which is located one the second floor.

The Asmara suites and the Ayung suites are considered to be the most luxurious ones, with views towards the valley and a private garden with a swimming pool. Price is around 1316€ per night. The Amandari suites have a living room with either one or two bedrooms. These suites have their own garden and swimming pool. The one bedroom Amandari suite costs around 1672€ per night, while the two bedroom Amandari suites costs 2216€ per night.

The hotel offers its guests another type of accommodation. The Villa Amandari is located next to the hotel and has views towards the ravine and the river, and costs 2877€ per night. This mansion has five different pavilions, three bedrooms with a terrace, several bathrooms, a separate living room, a huge balcony with a dining table where guests will be able to enjoy dinner al fresco, a private swimming pool and its own tropical garden.

This hotel has an open air restaurant decorated with teak furniture and with views towards the swimming pool and the Ayung valley. Guests will be able to taste traditional Indonesian food.
