Original Hotels

The Casa Caracol Hotel is located in Isla Mujeres, an island near Cancun, Mexico. The hotel’s two buildings are shaped like large snail conchs.

Houses.

The hotel has two buildings shaped like a sea snail’s shell which are decorated following a maritime theme. Another, more traditional building, is located on the hotel’s territory and is the owner’s house. Each shell shaped building can be rented for long stays.

Each room has a kingsize bed with a head board shaped like a giant shell, and a bathroom. All rooms are decorated in white. The bathroom have shell shaped bathtubs with showers that create fountains inside the shell.

The small shell has a master bedroom with a kingsize bed and a bathroom with a shell shaped shower. The large shell has two floors. There is a bathroom, a dining room and a kitchen on the first floor, and a master bedroom with a kingsize bed on the second floor, with a large bathroom with a shell shaped bathtub and a balcony.

The houses can be rented during most months, except when the Ocampo family, the owners of the hotel, spend their holidays there. The hotel is adapted for people with mobility issues. Price depends on the season, and usually starts from 1000€ per week.

Events.

The hotel can organize celebrations and events. A large catamaran that sails near the coast can be rented for large events and private dinners.

The hotel has a giant pool with borders shaped like a wave and covered in sea shells. One of the two houses has a smaller private pool.

On the hotel’s territory there is a barbecue area and a patio with chairs and tables where guests can enjoy dinners al fresco. Guests can take a walk around the hotel’s gardens, where no smoking is allowed.

Owners.

This architectural hotel is located in the South of the island. Two decades ago the architect Eduardo Ocampo built the first shell house for him and his wife, and later on a second house for his brother. His brother, Octavio Ocampo, is a painter who has created art pieces with many optical illusions.

Shell shape.

When the architect was about to build the second house, he found a sea shell on the beach and decided to build a house in that shape. The house has an irregular rounded shape. There is a spiral staircase inside the house. The doors and windows have a similar, shell shaped design.

Years later he decided to build another shell house with a more circular shape. This smaller one floor house has a master bedroom and a bathroom.

Activities.

Guests who stay at this hotel will be able to play golf, ride on bicycles and visit the island’s botanical gardens and museums. There are several beach activities ranging from fishing and snorkelling to sailing.

Location.

The hotel is located on Isla Mujeres, an island around 20 minutes away from Cancun. Guests can relax in the ocean, located steps away from the hotel. The products that grow on the hotel’s grounds are used when making bread, pasta, jam and natural wine, and truffles are picked during autumn. Depending on the type of stay, the price can include a breakfast and a lunch and dinner made from local ingredients.

Stables.

The hotel has its own stables where guests can leave their horses and practice horse riding while exploring the region on horse. There is a pool with a view. Smoking is not allowed at the hotel.

Location.

The mansion is located in a 185 acre territory a short distance away from Urbino. Historically this was the place where the Dukes of Montefeltro lived, and it was this family that planted the oak trees that line the hotel’s grounds. This ecological hotel is powered by solar panels and alternative energy sources.

The hotel has views towards the countryside and the hills. Guests can enjoy horse riding and visit the nearby villages of San Leo, Mondavio and Piobbico on horse, and there are several tours around the Gola del Furlo Natural Reserve. Each villa has a main bedroom and a guest bedroom, a marble bathroom and traditional hand made decorations from the Seychelles and Africa. The villas are decorated with wood, glass and stone. All rooms have air conditioning and traditional punkah punkah fans.

The main bedroom has a walk in closet and a library corner with a desk and chair. The bathroom is made of marble and has a separate WC, two sinks, an interior shower and an exterior shower. The kitchen is connected to the living room. Each room has satellite TV, CDs, DVDs and Internet access. There is a small private swimming pool in each villa’s garden, and each villa has views towards the sea. Price is from 2000€ per night.

The first ten villas are located next to Anse d’Est beach. Villa 11, known as the North Island Villa, is the hotel’s largest cabin and is located next to the northern tip of the beach and the Takamaka forest.

Restaurant.

The hotel’s restaurant offers a personalized service for each guest. The hotel can cater for guests who have food allergies and intolerances. Each meal is made of fresh local ingredients and guests will be able to enjoy their meals with a wine from the wine menu.

The traditionally decorated bar and the lounge area have views towards the mountains and the sea. There is a small pond next to the wine cellar, which can be rented for private events.

Activities.

On the hotel’s territory there is a children’s playground and a picnic area with benched and tables. There is a large garden with several benches.

Activities.

Near the hotel guests will find a beach where they will be able to relax. The bay where the hotel is located is filled with fishing boats and private vessels. Depending on the season guests will be able to observe the dolphins in the bay. The restaurants around this region offer guests a wide range of fresh fish fished each morning.

Events.

The hotel can organize events of up to 300 people on its territory. The catering service can prepare a wide range of typical regional menus and guests will be able to enjoy typical Azeitão fare. The area is known for its wines, cheeses, fresh fish and home made pastries.

Location.

The two mills are located above a mountain with views towards the Sado River and the ocean. A couple of minutes away from the hotel guests will find the Setubal castle, an historical castle. Design and Philosophy.

This small hotel’s philosophy is that everything should be chic. The hotel has seven floors and a large territory with several common areas and gardens. The hotel’s 12 metre long infinity pool is a salt water pool that allows guests to relax while observing the views.

Rooms and Suites.

The hotel has 34 studios and 17 different suites. Each room has a bedroom with a large bed and a bathroom, and some of the more spacious rooms have an extra bedroom. The rooms are decorated with hand made beds, carved furniture and a minimalist décor.

Three main materials are used in the rooms, polished stone, stainless steel and teak wood. There is a balcony in each room and the bathrooms follow the typical Luxx hotel style, this meaning they are divided in several partitions. There are several flat television screens, CDs and DVD’s, and WiFi available throughout the hotel. All rooms have a coffee and tea making machine and complimentary bottled water. The Old Colehurst Manor is an antique mansion located in Shropshire, England, in the United Kingdom. The mansion has been recently remodelled and is now a large hotel known for its events.

Architecture.

The first mansion was built in the XIIIth century, when it was used as a lodging for monks of the Order of St. Benedict. Centuries later, in 1580, the mansion was reconstructed by an aristocratic family, and King Charles I stayed here for a time. In 1986, after many different owners, the mansion was converted into an hotel.

This Elizabethan mansion is considered a building of historical interest. It has been reconstructed and remodelled several times throughout the years, and with each new owner it has acquired new annexes and a more modern design, all the while conserving the historical structure. The floors are hardwood floors, with oak panels decorating the walls and fireplaces in each room.

Rooms and Prices.

The mansion has 9 rooms. Four of these rooms have antique four poster beds, chimneys and separate bathtubs and showers. All rooms have traditional XVI and XVIIth century décor with the latest technologies.

Fred’s Chamber is a double room with a shared bathroom. Price is 112€ per night. The Lady in White room is a spacious room with a kingsize bed and a shared bathroom, which costs 136€ per night. The Priest’s House room has two double beds and a shared bathroom, with a price of 136€ per night. This inn belonged to the person considered to be the father of modern archaeology, General Augustus Lane Fox Pitt Rivers. The building.

The building of the hotel is considered to be an historic building. Several soldiers hid there during the Civil War. The façade still has the bullet holes dating from the battle.

The hotel was built in memory of those who lost their lives during the Battle of Gettysburg, which lasted from the 1st to the 3 of July 1863. Many say that the ghosts of the dead still wander around the hotel.

The hotel organizes candlelit ghost tours. During these ghost tours, which start from the attic and end with a walk around the city, all of which is done by the light of a candle, guests will be able to learn the history of this important building and of the battle itself. During the tour a guide dressed as they did in that era tells the history of the city and the battle, and shares entertaining stories and anecdotes of ghosts who still exist in many buildings.

It is said that fourteen ghosts live in this ancient mansion. The ghost of a young woman called Mary is the hotel’s main attraction. A father and his son, who died on the hotel’s territory, roam the hallways. Several soldiers who died during the battle can be heard moving boxes around in the attic.
